Lisburn Downtown Centre – Queen’s Award Recipients

We are proud to say we are Queen’s Award Recipients!

The Queen’s award for voluntary service is the MBE for groups like ours, the highest level of award given. We are thrilled and excited to officially include the Queen’s award insignia proudly beside our new logo!

On Tuesday 25th September 2018 the Management committee of Downtown hosted an afternoon tea to celebrate the presentation of our Award. Lord Lieutenant Mrs Joan Chirstie CVO OBE presented Janet Moffett & Gerry O’Neill with the Crystal award and Joan Parks & Joyce Moran with the signed certificate (signed by the Queen!) on behalf of all volunteers at Downtown, past and present.

Important dignitaries attended such as the Mayor of Lisburn Mr Uel Mackin who welcomed everyone to the occasion. It was a very special day for the Charity but most importantly for the Volunteers. For 30 years, volunteers have breathed life into Downtown. Willing it forward and ensuring those most in need in our community get the support they deserve.

Today, Downtown facilitates 4 weekly and 2 bi-weekly support groups tailored to the needs of its members. We are continuously growing and moulding our service to the benefit of our members.

Downtown is immensely proud of its accomplishments, attained through the hard work and dedication of all volunteers. Congratulations!!! So well deserved!

Our sincere thanks…

With thanks to our funders the ARN Foundation, the Clothworkers foundation, the Rotary club of Lisburn and the First Lisburn Presbyterian Church (with a special thanks to Gordon McKeown and Morris Wilson, overseeing the entire refurbishment). Lord Lieutenant Mrs Christie marked the occassion on the 25th September by officially opening the newly refurbished Centre. Making it a landmark day for our Charity!
